Your child's name has a story worth telling

Sankofa Little Light · A note for your family

You do not need a perfect family tree to share a meaningful piece of your child's history. Start with something you know: who chose their name, how it is pronounced, or a memory connected to it. Tell the story in your own words. If you do not know the meaning or origin, say so. You can be curious together without filling the gap with a guess. Ask: “What do you like about your name? Is there anything you wish people understood about it?” Practice a calm correction if your child wants one: “My name is pronounced ____. Let me say it once more.” They can ask a trusted adult for support, too. Tonight, try this together Write your names on a page. Add one memory, one family connection, or one quality each person wants their name to stand for. Keep the page as the beginning of a family story collection.
