Everyday connection
One question beyond “How was school?”
Sankofa Little Light · A note for your family

Some children are ready to talk at pickup. Others need food, quiet, or movement first. You can offer connection without asking for an immediate report.
Try: “Was there a moment today when you felt like yourself?”
If they say “I don't know,” let that be an answer. You might share a small moment from your own day and return to the conversation later.
A father might say, “Today I asked for help with something I didn't understand. I was glad I did.” Ordinary examples make room for ordinary stories, not only achievements.
Tonight, try this together
Spend five minutes doing something side by side. Fold towels, draw, or take a short walk. Ask one question, then give the conversation space.
